Shukanand Swami, the Private Secretary of Lord Vikram Samvat 1855-1925 (1799-1869 AD)
Shukanand Swami was born in Dabhan village near Nadiad (Gujarat) on 5th day of Margshirsh month of Vikram Samvat 1955 in an Audichya Brahmin family. Right from childhood he displayed features of scholarship in Prakrit language. Leaving all passions, loving celebacy with intense renunciation and detachment he came to Gadhada to join the ascetic fold of the Holy Fellowship.
He laid himself at the lotus feet of Lord Swaminarayan and later he received Diksha in the presence of Muktanand Swami at the auspicious hands of Lord Swaminarayan. Looking to his sense of detachment and ascetic attitude like Shukaji, Shri Hari blessed him with the name Shukanandji.Shukanandji confirmed to the value of that name by sharing the work of preparing Sanskrit-Prakrit literature of the Fellowship and secured a position among the prominent saints of the Holy Fellowship by serving as the private secretary to Lord Swaminarayan.

Many a time he received genuine appreciation from the Lord for his deep knowledge and sense of detachment. The Lord considered him to be a great saint as Muktanand Muni. He was given an important duty at the time of the compilation of the Vachanamritam, and that is the proof of God's grace upon him. Shukanand Swami has written treatise on 'Satsangi Jeevan' and has translated a number of volumes into Gujarati. He has composed hymns (stotras) on the Lord.
On the 5th day of the dark half of Margshirsh month of Vikram Samvat 1925 offering valuable services to Satsang, he left his material body and joined direct service of Shri Hari in Akshardham.
